Have you had one of the following events happen to you during the year? If so, read below to know how to get us more information on your life events. Taking action on these events when they happen will save you time while we're preparing your return which can also save you on tax preparation fees.
You bought or sold property - If you purchased or sold a primary residence, rental or investment property, vacant land or lots then please send us a copy of the Settlement Sheet (formerly a HUD-1) that corresponds to the purchase/sale. If you're not sure what a Settlement Sheet should look like here's a link to a sample copy. Not all Settlement Sheets look alike but they are typically between three and five pages long and are presented to you at the closing of the purchase/sale.
You are renting out a new property - Email or call us now so we can get your new property setup in our software in advance of your tax appointment.
You started a new business - Email or call us now to review gettting your records together and to receive a copy of our Small Business Guidelines to help you get your expenses in order before your appointment.
You closed out a business - Email or call us to make sure you are in compliance with all necessary end of business filings and responsibilities.
You got married - If we'll be filing a joint tax return with you and your new spouse, and they are not already a client of ours, please send us a copy of your spouse's prior three tax returns now so we can update our software.
You got divorced or your divorce will be finalized by December 31, 2023 - Send us a copy of your divorce decree/agreement before your appointment.
You have a new baby (birth or adoption) - Send us a copy of their Social Security card and birth certificate.
Your spouse passed away - Give us a call and send us a copy of the death certificate.
You refinanced your home - Again, send us a copy of the Settlement Sheet for the refinance before you have your tax appointment.
You took money out of a retirement account before you were eligible - Give us a call or send us an email right away. We want to make sure you had adequate withholding on the withdraw and or advise you on sending a 4th quarter estimated payment.
