About Us

Matthew Lincoln and Ryan Jenkins are Enrolled Agents (EA) located in Frederick County, MD. Together with their amazing staff, they provide a wide range of tax services to clients, not only in Frederick but all over the world. They believe in educating their clients about tax planning, tax law, and good financial decision making; but, perhaps most importantly, they believe in treating them like family.

Matthew Lincoln EA

Matthew started his professional life teaching for two years in the Prince Georges County public school system before settling back home in Frederick County. He taught at Linganore High School for five and a half years and had the chance to start various after school engineering and robotics programs for his students. With the help of the students, they applied for and received significant grant monies from NASA which helped their team travel the eastern shore to compete in the FIRST® Robotics Competition. He also successfully petitioned for a paid coaching position for "Robotics" which has lead to multiple schools in Frederick County now supporting similar engineering and technology programs.

In 2004 he passed the H&R Block tax course and in 2005 started working part-time in Patrice's tax preparation office. In 2006 he made the decision to leave teaching to work full time as a tax accountant. Matthew took and passed each section of the EA exam on his first try between 2009 and 2010 and received his EA designation in March of 2011. He has had the opportunity to present to his peers at conferences and in 2012 was honored to be a recipient of the “Outstanding Young Professionals Award” from the Maryland Society of Accountants.

Ryan Jenkins EA

Ryan began his 20+ years of corporate experience working locally for Marriott before packing up all of his belongings and moving to southern California where he took a job working for Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank.  Eventually, he moved back to the east coast and in 2006, he met his wife and settled down in Ashburn, Virginia as the graphic design and web development director for a large Methodist church in the area.  In 2013, Matthew bought out the business from its founder, his mother, Patrice, and wanted to increase the company's online presence with a website and he turned to Ryan to help get this started. Ryan went to work, and with Matthew's input, designed and built the website you're using right now.

Matthew knew he wanted Ryan onboard to continue managing this aspect of his company but he then threw Ryan a curveball by asking him if he would also learn how to do taxes. After discussions with family, Ryan decided to make this career change. He enrolled in H&R Block's intensive tax course in October of 2014, and passed at the top of his class. He spent the next tax season working for Block and was one of the most successful first year preparers his branch had - all this while keeping his other day job, too. A few months after the close of the 2015 tax season, he started working full time at Lincoln Tax Professionals.

During his time here at Lincoln Tax, Ryan also began studying to take the Enrolled Agent’s exam to earn his E.A. designation just as Matthew had. He accomplished this goal in September of 2019, after passing all three sections of the exam on his first attempt. Ryan's strengths naturally lean towards helping his clients better market and develop their businesses and he will also be specializing in clergy returns in the office.

What is an Enrolled Agent (EA)?

The IRS describes an Enrolled Agent as follows on their website:

"An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.

Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights. This means they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before. Learn more about enrolled agents in Treasury Department Circular 230 (PDF)."
