We wanted to let you know that we are still processing 2019 tax returns. It has been quite a year between shutting down the office because of Covid-19, all of our staff continuing to work from home, the stimulus packages passed by Congress and the myriad of loans and employee protection programs we have had to navigate over the past few months for our clients.
With so many challenges, we are making tough decisions about the places to prioritize our energy. Our top three priorities as we reach the first filing deadline in order are:
- Working with clients who might owe money, to determine what payments they need to make before July 15, 2020. If this is you, Matt or Ryan will reach out to you in the next few days to let you know what amounts you should send in. Those amounts need to be paid by July 15th.
- Getting extensions filed for any client whose taxes might not be done and filed by the July 15th deadline.
- Finishing returns and getting them e-filed.
We wanted to make you aware of this priority so that if you believe you might owe money, you can reach out to us and make sure you understand your liabilities and pay them on time (by July 15, 2020).
If you don't believe you'll owe money, you can relax knowing we will file an extension for you and there will be no penalties for filing after the deadline. Finishing your returns ASAP is still a major priority, it's just not #1 right now. The deadline for filing a return on extension is October 15, 2020.
If you have an immediate and pressing reason that you need to have your return completed by July 15 (i.e. you are getting a new mortgage or refinancing your home) then let us know that information now.
We continue to be very grateful to all of our clients for their understanding as we work to meet the many needs that face our community. Thank you for your patience!
